Why are my stats different to my Google Analytics account?
The statistics from The Webconsole and Google Analytics are worked out in two separate ways.
- With our method, each time a visitor downloads a page from your website, information is sent in the request headers that we store on our servers. This information is stored on our servers and each night we convert this raw data into statistics. This is a very common way of working out a website's statistics, however it has a few downfalls due to some assumptions we need to make, for instance:
- All automated programs and bots are counted as normal traffic so the page count may be higher
- When multiple people visit the website with the same IP address, we cannot differentiate if they are the same or different users.
- Google analytics, however, solves these challenges as they don't record the data in the same way we do, they use javascript on the page of the website.
It is easy to set up Google analytics within your website, just follow these instructions.
