Set up Google Tag Manager in thewebconsole

How to setup Google Tag Manager in the webconsole:

  1. Navigate to tagmanager.google.com and create an account (or use an existing account if you have one). A new container is created by default, and you can create additional containers within each account.
  2. Enter an account name, select your country of operation and indicate whether or not you'd like to share data anonymously with Google and others (this is optional). Click Continue.
  3. Enter a descriptive container name and select the type of content: Web. Click Create.
  4. Choose your language (if not English) and accept the terms at the bottom of the page.
  5. Click Yes in the top right.
  6. A box will popup on your screen with instructions on how to install Google Tag Manager.
  7. Copy the GTM-XXXXXXX code as you can see highlighted here: https://i.imgur.com/b0UBHs3.png
  8. Login to thewebconsole.com and select Settings in the top right. Navigate to Website Settings > SEO and click Show Advanced Options. Paste the GTM-XXXXXXX code into the Google Tag Manager Container Code area and click Save SEO Settings as seen here: https://i.imgur.com/PMqSY2E.png
  9. At this point you will need to go to Google Tag Manager and start adding your code. You will need to ensure any existing Facebook Pixel, Google Analytics or any other codes you can use in Google Tag Manager are removed from thewebconsole and website templates to avoid any conflicts.
  10. If Google Analytics was setup in Google Tag Manager initially, this will still need to be authorised in thewebconsole, but you will need to leave the "Google analytics code:" field blank to avoid having an additional copy of the code added to the website.
  11. If Google Analytics has previously been setup and authorised, all you will need to do is remove the code from the "Google analytics code:" field here: https://i.imgur.com/ddkyyLm.png
  12. Once this has been completed, go back to Google Tag Manager, select your account (if not already there) and make sure you are in the Overview tab. Hit Submit in the top right and name your version.

Congratulations, Google Tag Manager has now been added to your website.
